WELCOME TO ART FOR THE SOUL!
The Finnish visual artist and writer Vivi-Mari Carpelan presents her symbolic and spiritually attuned handmade images made in mixed media or as collages. They portray her own inner journey but also act as mirrors upon which others can contemplate and reflect processes of their own. Therefore, not everything is strictly speaking 'pleasant'. We all have tough issues to deal with, be it within ourselves or in the world that surrounds us. These aspects of negativity need to be cleared out of our system so that our inner core can radiate more and our life purpose reveals itself ever more clearly. The clearance of negative conditioning is in Jungian terms called Shadow work, as the Shadow represents all that has been denied and tucked away into the subconscious mind. Vivi-Mari likes to refer to this terminology as it also embraces the importance of understanding the symbolism of dreams and her artwork has the quality of symbolic dreams. To balance up the heavier issues we need positive affirmations as well, and so Vivi-Mari's pieces are also in tune with the light within and many of them radiate a strong conviction in the power of spirit and its expression through human creativity and the deeper values of compassion, tolerance and honesty. She believes that it is important to think more in terms of both-and rather than either-or, and so deep paradoxes are usually embedded in her pieces of art.
